What’s On TV? – Tuesday (07/30/19)- ‘Men in Black’ Saves the Galaxy Twice

For tonight’s TV options, audiences can revisit a timeless classic while getting a double dose of iconic, secret agents kicking some alien butt. In addition, a new stand-up special from Netflix is in store.

“The Shawshank Redemption” (AMC) at 8:00 PM ET

Today’s pick is “The Shawshank Redemption,” a classic celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. In this prison drama, Tim Robbins plays Andy Dufresne, a banker found guilty for a crime he didn’t commit. Once he’s sent to jail, he befriends Red (Morgan Freeman), a long-term inmate who helps him deal with prison life. While this film commercially under-performed, its reputation has only grown. The film earned seven Oscar nominations and became the highest rated film on IMDb.

“Whitney Cummings: Can I Touch It?” on Netflix

Actress and writer Whitney Cummings returns to her stand-up roots, and her hometown of Washington, D.C., with her first Netflix special. According to IMDb, “Whitney Cummings: Can I Touch It?” will have Cummings riffing on modern technology, feminism, and more. While Cummings may not be a household name, she’s still been a consistent presence within comedy, starring in her own eponymous sitcom and co-creating “2 Broke Girls” as well. Anyone who’s familiar with her work may be interested in comedy special.

Reactions to “Men in Black: International” have been divided to say the least. However, fans of the “Men in Black” series can enjoy a double feature on CMT tonight. Airing at 7:00 PM ET is “Men in Black,” the film that started it all. Both Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) and the newly recruited Agent J (Will Smith) find themselves up against an alien that invades the body of a farmer (Vincent D’Onofrio) and looks to take over the galaxy.

Then at 9:15 PM ET,  “Men in Black II” airs. In this sequel, Agent J works solo after Agent K has his own memory of being a MIB agent erased. But once a new alien threat arrives, J must team up with K again while helping him get his memory back.
