A24 have released the first trailer for Dan Krauss‘ war drama, “The Kill Team,” starring Nat Wolff (“Stella’s Last Weekend”) and Alexander Skarsgård (“Big Little Lies”). Krauss writes and directs the film from the same true events that inspired his 2013 documentary of the same name. The project went on to win the Truer Than Fiction Award at the 2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards. Now with a feature film on his hands, Krauss directs Wolff as his lead in this startling depiction of a soldier battling against the morality of his platoon.
When Andrew Briggman (Nat Wolff), a young soldier in the US invasion of Afghanistan, witnesses other recruits killing innocent civilians under the direction of a sadistic leader, Sergeant Deeks (Alexander Skarsgård), he considers reporting them to higher-ups — but the heavily-armed, increasingly violent platoon becomes suspicious that someone in their ranks has turned on them, and Andrew begins to fear that he’ll be the next target.
The cast of “The Kill Team” features Adam Long, Jonathan Whitesell, Brian “Sene” Marc, Osy Ikhile, Anna Francolini and Rob Morrow. Krauss is a two-time Oscar nominated filmmaker for his work on the 2016 documentary short “Extremis,” about the ICU of a hospital, and for the 2004 doc short “The Life of Kevin Carter,” the account of a controversial South African photojournalist.
A24 is the studio behind the Best Picture-winning “Moonlight,” the Oscar nominated “Lady Bird” and the Oscar-winning sci-fi drama “Ex Machina.” Their slate now includes Krauss’ war drama, an unlikely genre audiences haven’t seen distributed by the studio until now. Forthcoming titles from the company include “In Fabric,” “The Lighthouse” and “Uncut Gems.”
“The Kill Team” premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival on April 25th. It is produced by Falco Ink. It is distributed by A24 and releases in theaters and On Demand services October 25.
