What’s On TV? – Wednesday (8/14/19) – Dance With New Netflix Documentary ‘Happy Jail’

Netflix releases new content weekly between their movies, documentaries and original series. Due to the amount they release, it’s easy for titles to get buried and never seen. But the streaming giant attach themselves to some interesting work, which beg to be viewed based on premise alone. Today’s pick of the day is one of the those titles:

Pick of the Day:
“Happy Jail” (Netflix Documentary)

The five-part docu-series has an immediately intriguing hook. It centers on a Philippine jail, where dancing is a part of the inmates’ exercise routine. In 2007, a video went viral of the inmates dancing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” which put a spotlight – and negative fallout – on the jail. Going into the documentary, there are plenty of questions and implications about the fame aspect, which makes the new series a must-see.

Movies on TV:
“White House Down” (Paramount) at 7:00 PM ET

“White House Down” is explosive summer entertainment from six years ago, which should be watched in place of the lackluster blockbusters at the movie theaters right now. The action film works so well because it knows exactly the type of film it is: big, loud, fun, outrageous and implausible on every front. At 137 minutes, “White House Down” moves at a fast-paced tempo, keeping the audience engaged and entertained with its own ridiculousness. Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx have a great back-and-forth with each other, helping make “White House Down” pure entertainment.
