What’s On TV? – Monday 9/2/19 – A Night of Sequels & Pop Culture Mainstays

From "Legally Blonde" to "Bachelor in Paradise," here's the rundown on everything hitting the airwaves tonight.

Tonight, sequels like “John Wick 2” and “Jaws 2,” pop culture mainstays such as “Legally Blonde” and “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” animated fare from “Toy Story 2” and “Ice Age 2” and Marvel powerhouses with “Thor: The Dark World” and “Deadpool” make for a great night of TV. And, of course, there’s also the usual Monday night slate of reality TV to keep us engaged.

Pick of the Day:

“On Becoming a God in Central Florida” (Showtime) 10:00 PM ET

Premiering last week, catch up on this buzzed-about dark comedy that tells the story of a minimum-wage water park employee who turns to a cultish scheme to achieve a better life. Starring Kirsten Dunst and Alexander Skarsgård, this ’90s time capsule is a wry take on the American dream, capitalism and the lies we tell ourselves to achieve “success.” With a great cast, stellar performances and crazy, over-the-top moments, this is a provocative and fascinating watch.

Movies on TV:

“Terminator 2: Judgment Day” (BBC) 6:00 PM ET

This 1991 James Cameron directed sequel about a cyborg sent to protect the teenage son of Sarah Connor earned six Academy Award nominations and won four. “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” is an iconic sequel that, arguably, far surpasses the original. Memorable performances from Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick and Joe Morton, make this one fun and thrilling ride. With an unconventional hero, a fierce heroine and a catchphrase ingrained in the pop culture lexicon, this sci-fi action film is one to watch.

“My Best Friend’s Wedding” (TMC) 8:00 PM ET

This 1997 romantic comedy about a woman realizing a little too late that she’s in love with her best friend and the lengths she’d go to try and win him over is an energetic and upbeat watch. Featuring an A-list cast of Julia Roberts, Dermot Mulroney, Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett, Roberts and Everett shine in this lively comedy. And who could forget a restaurant of people breaking out into an entertaining performance of Dionne Warwick‘s “Say a Little Prayer,” one of the most memorable movie moments.
