What’s On TV? – Monday (9/9/19) – Female Empowerment & Unlikely Heroes

Inspired by the viral video phenomenon #LipSyncChallenge, the new special LIP SYNC TO THE RESCUE, hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, star of CBS' hit comedy THE NEIGHBORHOOD, will be broadcast Monday, Sept. 9 (8:00-9:00PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Also, country music superstar Luke Bryan is featured on the show when he surprises the Saratoga County, N.Y. Deputy Sheriff's Office and helps them redo their original lip sync video. Tonight there is a little something for everyone, from romantic comedies (“Pretty Woman”) to action films (“Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Twister,” “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters,” and “Zombieland”) to laugh-out- loud comedies (the “National Lampoon” franchise). Or maybe you’re more of a reality television junkie, from finding love to lip sync battles and home renovations, Monday’s got you covered for that too!

Pick of the Day:

“The Deuce” on HBO at 9:00 p.m. ET

After a rocky second season and some off-screen issues, “The Deuce” returns tonight for its third and final season to tackle the power dynamics in the porn industry. This season will pick up with Candy in her transition to filmmaker while dealing with what life throws her. Meanwhile, the city tries to “clean up” Times Square. With great acting performances and all the feels of the 1980s, we’re excited to see how Candy and Harvey navigate the “future” and the changing times.

Movies on TV:

“The Mule” (HBO) 7:00 PM ET

Reminiscent of “Gran Torino” in some ways, this 2018 film stars Clint Eastwood as a Korean War vet who becomes a drug mule for the Mexican cartel. Also starring Dianne Wiest, Taissa Farmiga, Laurence Fishburne, Bradley Cooper, Andy Garcia and Michael Pena, “The Mule” is a slow burn of a crime drama while at the same time an excellent character study by a cinematic master.

“Pretty Woman” (TNT) 10:30 PM ET

One of the most iconic romantic comedies of all-time, this feel good “Cinderella” story is filled with laughs and tears and every emotion in between. The story of a high-powered businessman who learns that life isn’t all about business while falling for a prostitute he  employees during a business trip. Filled with career-highlight portrayals from Julia Roberts (nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for this role) and Richard Gere, plus memorable supporting performances from the likes of Hector Elizondo, Laura San Giacomo and Jason Alexander, this film feels like the first time every time.
