What’s On TV? – Wednesday (9/11/19) – Shows to Watch in Honor of 9/11

Today marks the eighteenth anniversary of 9/11.  There are several things to watch in honor of 9/11 as channels are airing programs to commemorate this day. The History Channel is airing a brand new documentary from the viewpoint of the Air Force One cockpit, “9/11: Inside Air Force One” at 9 p.m. ET. HBO is airing “In the Shadow of the Towers: Stuyvesant High on 9/11” at 9 p.m. ET, a new documentary shown from eight eyewitness perspectives; and National Geographic is airing the second episode of their series, “Inside 9/11,” a show that traces al Qaeda’s early threats and the aftermath.

Films depicting the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania are also airing tonight. “Flight 93,” on CMT at 9 p.m. ET, tells the story of the heroic passengers who took control of the plane aiming for the White House. “United 93,” a film in real-time of the Pennsylvania plane crash, airs on HBO2 at 9:30 p.m. ET.

The Looming Tower a Hulu originalWhile this limited series was released last February, this is the perfect show to watch in honor of 9/11.  A Hulu original, watch or re-watch this gripping drama surrounding the relationship between the CIA and FBI leading up to 9/11. The show was nominated for several Emmys including Outstanding Casting for a Limited Series, Movie or Special and Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series, Movie or Special. Actors Jeff Daniels and Michael Stuhlbarg were also nominated.

If you need a break from the memorials, here’s a rom-com classic. Will Smith plays Hitch, a professional date doctor who dedicates his life to helping men find love. His life hits a speed bump when he meets a cynical gossip columnist, Sara, played by Eva Mendes. This film is a heartwarming reminder that love can be found in the unlikeliest of places.
