What’s On TV? Wednesday (9/18/19) – Catch Up! The Emmys Are Coming

We are just days away from the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards that will be held on Sunday, September 22 at 8:00 p.m. ET.  With so many shows nominated, it’s difficult to watch them all.  We wanted to suggest just a few to watch in preparation for the Emmy awards on Sunday.

Two Shows to Watch In Preparation for the Emmys

Pick of the Day

“Ozark” (Netflix)

Outstanding Drama Series

This dark, family drama, nominated for an Emmy in Oustanding Drama Series, delivered a second season that was even better than the first. Brilliant accountant Marty Byrde, (Jason Bateman) cleans money for the second largest drug cartel in the world. After things take a turn for the worst, the Byrde family is forced to move from Chicago to the Ozarks. In order to protect his family, Marty must clean an impossible amount of money in an even more impossible amount of time. This fast-paced show begs the question: how far would you go to protect your family?

Other nominations for “Ozark”

Jason Bateman is nominated for Emmys both as Outstanding Director and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Laura Linney, who plays Marty’s wife Wendy, is also nominated as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Television’s new darling Julia Garner received a well-deserved Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Movies on TV

“Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” (Netflix)

Outstanding Television Movie

Netflix ushered in a new genre of television last year by allowing viewers to “choose their own adventure” with the movie “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.” A young programmer in the ’80s tries to make a “choose your own adventure” video game based on his favorite book, “Bandersnatch.” Emmy nominated for Outstanding Television Movie, viewers are able to choose which path a character should go down. If the path you, as the viewer, chose doesn’t further the story, the scene is repeated and you have to choose again. If you don’t choose at all, Netflix picks for you and decides whether to repeat or proceed with the story. It’s very difficult to see all possible outcomes, but having the power of choosing the story is very exciting.
