“Let the game begin.” Warner Bros has released the first trailer for “The Good Liar,” directed by Bill Condon. The film stars Oscar winner Helen Mirren (“The Queen”) and two-time Oscar nominee Ian McKellen (“Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”).
Career con artist Roy Courtnay (McKellen) can hardly believe his luck when he meets well-to-do widow Betty McLeish (Mirren) online. As Betty opens her home and life to him, Roy is surprised to find himself caring about her, turning what should be a cut-and-dry swindle into the most treacherous tightrope walk of his life.
Filmed on location in London and Berlin, “The Good Liar” sees two of film’s best actors of their generation share the screen for the first time. Condon directs and produces the film from a screenplay by Jeffrey Hatcher (“Mr. Holmes”) and based on the widely acclaimed novel by Nicholas Searle.
Condon is an Oscar-winning filmmaker. He won Academy gold with adapting the screenplay for 1998’s “Gods and Monsters,” in which he directed McKellen’s Oscar nominated role. In 2003, he was nominated again, this time for “Chicago”‘s adapted screenplay. Condon also directed the Oscar-winning “Dreamgirls” and the Oscar nominated “Beauty and the Beast.”
“The Good Liar” also stars Russell Tovey (“Quantico”) and Jim Carter (“Downton Abbey”). Executive producers on the film are Richard Brener, Andrea Johnston, Aaron L. Gilbert, Jason Cloth, Anjay Nagpal, Jack Morrissey, and Nick O’Hagan.
“The Good Liar” is produced by 1000 Eyes Production and presented by New Line Cinema in association with BRON Creative. Warner Bros will be distributing the film in theaters November 15.
