WATCH: Alicia Vikander Stars in First Trailer For Psychological Thriller ‘Earthquake Bird,’ For Netflix

Netflix have released the trailer for “Earthquake Bird,” a psychological thriller starring Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander (“The Danish Girl”) and directed by Wash Westmoreland (Colette”).

A psychologically unsettling and atmospheric thriller set in 1989 Tokyo from director Wash Westmoreland (Colette, Still Alice), Earthquake Bird follows Lucy Fly (Alicia Vikander), an enigmatic expat haunted by a painful past, who enters into an intense relationship with Teiji (Naoki Kobayashi), a handsome yet similarly troubled local photographer. Lucy’s imperturbable exterior begins to crack when a naive newcomer, Lily Bridges (Riley Keough), becomes entangled in their lives and ends up missing – suspected dead.

Westmoreland directed last year’s “Colette,” starring Keira Knightley, a film that was nominated for four British Independent Film Awards. Westmoreland also helmed “Still Alice,” which won Julianne Moore her Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Westmoreland also directed “The Last of Robin Hood,” the award-winning documentary “Gay Republicans,” “Quinceañera” and plenty of video shorts.

Westmoreland now directs Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander in a film adaptation of British author Susanna Jones’ novel, “The Earthquake Bird.” The book was published in 2001 and won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize, a Betty Trask Award and the Crime Writers’ Association John Creasy Dagger. “Earthquake Bird” also stars Naoki Kobayashi and Rile Keough.

“Earthquake Bird” is produced by Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions and Twenty First City. It is distributed by Netflix, who will release the film in limited theaters November 1, before heading to streaming November 15.
