A saga nears its end. The final trailer for “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” has been released. The final epic trailer aired and debuted during Monday Night Football as tickets went on sale.
The surviving Resistance faces the First Order once more in the final chapter of the Skywalker saga.
Returning cast members in “Rise of Skywalker” include Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac and Kelly Marie Tran.
The film is the third of three in its exclusive saga, following 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” which grossed over $2 billion worldwide, and 2017’s “The Last Jedi” earning over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. The latest installment serves as the final episode of the “Skywalker Saga” of the franchise that will look to settle the destined fight between the Jedi and the Sith. Luke, General Leia and Emperor Palpatine are set to return once more.
“The thing I think about all the time is the responsibility we have. It’s something that we talk about every minute that we’re involved in making these movies and this one in particular,” producer Kathleen Kennedy said at the April Star Wars Celebration panel. “This is the third act of a three-act structure, [and] I think what you end up seeing, you’re going to be so happy with.”
Edited trailer footage was revealed back at the Star Wars panel at D23. Footage and teasers have since raised aching questions among fans of the galactic franchise. Tickets went on sale for the film Monday, already breaking Atom Tickets records once held by Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame.” Within the first hour of presales opening, the film racked over 45% more ticket sales than the MCU juggernaut earlier this year.
“Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” is produced by Lucasfilm, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot company and Walt Disney Studios. It releases in theaters December 20.
