Amazon Studios have released the second trailer for “The Aeronauts,” starring Academy Award winner Eddie Redmayne and Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones. This is the pair’s first feature together since their critically lauded performances in “The Theory of Everything.” Tom Harper directs the film.
In 1862, daredevil balloon pilot Amelia Wren (Felicity Jones) teams up with pioneering meteorologist James Glaisher (Eddie Redmayne) to advancehuman knowledge of the weather and fly higher than anyone in history.While breaking records and furthering scientific discovery, their voyage to the very edge of existence helps the unlikely pair find their place in the world they have left far below them.But they face physical and emotional challenges in the thin air, as the ascent becomes a fight for survival.
“The Aeronauts” is Harper’s latest project after helming “Wild Rose,” which saw a remarkable performance out of lead actress Jessie Buckley. The cast for “The Aeronauts” also includes Tom Courtenay, Anne Reid, Rebecca Front, Vincent Perez, Tim McInnerny, Phoebe Fox and Himesh Patel.
The visually ambitious feature has screened at festivals inlcuding stops at Toronto, Mill Valley, Hamptons and Chicago. Harper’s film also screened at Telluride Film Festival, where Awards Circuit’s Clayton Davis reviewed the feature, saying it will “inspire a new generation of scientists and explorers, to ask questions, and seek out the unknown.”
The film is written by Jack Thorne, who has a screenwriting credit on 2017’s “Wonder.” Harper co-writes and produces the film. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are also producing for Mandeville’s Films. Executive producers are Richard Hewitt and Thorne.
“The Aeronauts” is distributed by Amazon Studios. It releases in select theaters December 6 and will land on Amazon Prime Video December 20.
