Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain has been cast in the lead role in Lucia Puenzo‘s next feature, “Losing Clementine.”

According to Variety, the story follows “world-renowned artist Clementine Pritchard (Chastain) who, after flushing away her meds, gives herself 31 days to tie up loose ends before killing herself. While checking off her bucket list, she uncovers secrets about her family and the tragedy that befell her mother and sister.”

Puenzo, an Argentine filmmaker, directed her sophomore feature, “The Fish Child,” which was later nominated for nine awards at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Argentina. At the ceremony, the film took home the award for Best New Actress for Mariela Vitale. Puenzo later directed “The German Doctor,” about an Argentine family who lived with Josef Mengele without knowing his true identity. The film was Argentina’s official submission to the Oscars of 2014.

Chastain was recently seen in Andy Muschietti’s box office hit, “It: Chapter Two,” which earned over $457 million at the worldwide box office. She has been nominated at the Academy Awards for her performances in “The Help” and “Zero Dark Thirty.”

Anna Cherkis, an Emmy-nominated writer on AMC’s “Better Call Saul,” is writing the script for “Losing Clementine,” adapted from Ashley Ream’s acclaimed novel of the same name.

Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin will produce the film with Freckle Films’ Chastain and Kelly Carmichael. Executive producing are Miller Way’s Michael and Jeeny Miller, with Sentient’s Jake Martin, Maryam Lieberman, and Cherkis. Rights to the novel were acquired by Tab, who developed the script and began raising financing for the project.

CAA Media Finance will be handling distribution rights for “Losing Clementine,” while Sierra/Affinity launches international sales at the American Film Market.
