Circuit Q&A – Favorite Noah Baumbach Film

**Circuit Q&A’s are our daily community question, posed to the readers of AwardsCircuit that cover various topics from film and television to general wonderings and for instances.**

Noah Baumbach has always seemed to be on the cusp of breaking through and becoming an A-list filmmaker. Early on, his realistic style behind the camera and smart screenplays got him an Academy Award nomination for one of his first films. Since then, Baumbach has seemingly just missed garnering major attention, time after time. This week, with the release of “Marriage Story” marking his return to awards contention, we want to know what you think of the auteur. Chiefly, which Baumbach flicks are your favorite?

This week, Baumbach enters the Oscar season once again with the aforementioned “Marriage Story,” one of the year’s best reviewed titles. Not only is he poised to be the frontrunner in Best Original Screenplay, he’s a heavy threat to score a citation in Best Director. Baumbach, along with his stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, are going to be a force this year for this incredibly powerful look at family. Scoring the best reviews and strongest buzz of his career, this is Baumbach’s entrance into the big time.

For many, his finest hour is still “The Squid and the Whale.” Nominated in Original Screenplay for the first time, where he lost to “Crash,” this was the work that really put his name on the cinematic map. Others may go for Baumbach’s follow-up films, including “Margot at the Wedding,” “Greenberg,” “Frances Ha,” “While We’re Young,” “Mistress America,” and “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected).” These works not only birthed his partnership with the aforementioned Driver, but with Greta Gerwig as well. There’s also his filmmaking debut “Kicking and Screaming,” as well as the documentary “De Palma,” which he co-directed.

On the other side of the coin, maybe you actually prefer his non directing contributions, where he’s been just a writer? “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” surely has some fans, but it’s likely “Fantastic Mr. Fox” or “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” that will have more backers. Baumbach’s team-ups with Wes Anderson have been unique, that’s for sure.

We turn it over to all of you now. What are your favorite Noah Baumbach movies? Could it be “Marriage Story” already? Are you just anticipating that it will be? Whatever the case, let us know. We’re all ears!
