Oscars 2021: Year-In-Advance Predictions Look At Diversity, Overdue Veterans, and Remakes

ammonite

OSCAR PREDICTIONS 2021: The work begins now. Studios are reassessing their slate in a new world where Disney owns just about everything. The more “established” President and CEOs are asking themselves how A24 and NEON won Best Picture trophies in such quick fashion.

There will be much to digest over the next few weeks as we launch our Awards Profiles but in the meantime, we begin to “predict the story” for the next awards season.

Down below you will not only find the year-in-advance predictions for the Academy Awards but also the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild. The Circuit Hub will have its first official launch of ALL the contenders Sunday at midnight eastern time.

It goes without saying, we’re excited for “Nomadland” from Chloe Zhao, “Stillwater” from Tom McCarthy, “Mank” from David Fincher, and “Dune” from Denis Villeneuve. Readers are probably ecstatic for “Tenet” from Christopher Nolan, “Da 5 Bloods” from Spike Lee, and “The Eternals” from Chloe Zhao.

I would LOVE a nomination for Jesse Plemmons, and a win for Bill Murray would be such a lovely reimbursement from the 2004 loss.

The Parks and Rec stan in me really wants academy award nominee Rashida Jones to happen

Question is who wins their overdue Director oscar Fincher or Nolan? Then again that didn’t help Tarantino

Tim Bruns

I would love to see In the Heights do really well, getting into (and maybe winning) Best Picture!! Globe M/C and SAG ensemble wins would make a lot of sense for it. An Oscar Picture win would also make Lin-Manuel an EGOT since he’s a producer. Also been a long time since the Academy went for a musical to take the top prize. I know the summer release may work against it, but who knows!! (Too early to know anything, I’m aware, but it’s my most anticipated movie of the year.)

Some movies with great potential I haven’t heard of before. Nomadland seems like a timely subject that, if it delivers, could really be a strong BP contender, and if The Eternals is the great success at the BO it is supposed to be Chloé Zhao could be strong for Director too. I didn’t Sofia Coppola was releasing something this year. That’s great, especially with her reuniting with Bill Murray. And Annette seems very interesting too. Considering it’s from the director of Holy Motors it must be something unique surely. Also, between Tenet, Dune and In the Heights, among other things,… Read more »

Cool piece. Always fun to read ridiculously early predictions – I have a minor correction: Great to see early speculation for Thomas Vinterberg getting a nomination, but Druk is from Denmark not Hungary. Thank you for all the great updates.
