AHS_AsylumOur unique readership here at the Awards Circuit has spoken.  Last week, voting opened up for the 2nd Annual Awards Circuit Community Awards for Television.  Last year, the consensus was the two best shows on television were ABC’s “Modern Family” and HBO’s “Game of Thrones”.

This year, a different feel is in effect.  FX’s hit-show (or deemed Mini-Series) “American Horror Story: Asylum” led the nominations with 9 including Best TV Movie or Mini-Series and having seven of its principal cast nominated.  Tied with seven nominations each, ABC’s “Modern Family“, HBO’s “Game of Thrones“, and Netflix’s “House of Cards“; all received four acting nominations.

HBO had an overall terrific showing with its TV Movie, “Behind the Candelabra” nabbing six nominations including two for its leads Matt Damon and Michael Douglas.  CBS’ #1 watched show on television, “The Big Bang Theory” received six nominations as well including a surprising Supporting Actor mention for Simon Helberg.

Speaking of surprises, the Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category  had a four-way tie that resulted in nine nominees, the most ever in a single category.  Helberg will do battle against last year’s winner Ty Burrell along with his co-star Eric Stonestreet.  Last year’s Lead Actor in a Comedy Series nominee Charlie Day received a nomination in Supporting this time for “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” along with Nick Offerman and Chris Pratt from “Parks and Recreation”, Bill Hader from “Saturday Night Live”, and Max Greenfield from “New Girl”.

Notable omissions and shut outs include AMC’s “Mad Men” in Best Drama Series where its other AMC counterpart, “The Walking Dead” was nominated, the show’s only nomination.  HBO’s “Girls” also only received one nomination for Lena Dunham in Lead Actress in a Comedy after being shut out last year.  ABC’s “Scandal” and star Kerry Washington received no love along with CBS’ “The Good Wife” and star Julianna Marguilles.  HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” was also left off every category surprisingly.

Check out the full list of nominees below.  Final voting will open Tuesday and close on Saturday with the winners being announced on the next episode of The Awards Circuit Power Hour.
