31 Days of Horror: Devilish DVD Pick of the Day (Week 1)

In the mood for a scary movie to watch at home? Of course you are…

One of the weekly pieces that will be running here at The Awards Circuit in conjunction with 31 Days of Horror is a horror themed DVD pick to go along with the normal DVD column. For this first shot, I’m simply going with a very recent release…The Cabin in the Woods. You all know what I think of the film, and I’m clearly not alone. It’s a unique way to start off the month, and in the weeks to come you’ll be seeing me cite some classics of the genre with multiple choices of some of the best scary movies of all time. In fact, to go along with citing The Cabin in the Woods, I’m going to go ahead and also recommend some similarly meta horror films to check out on DVD this week. There’s of course the Scream franchise, with #1 and #4 being your best bets, plus the likes of Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead, and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. These are all pretty solid picks, and after the jump I’ll share a video from each, excluding Cabin since the fun of that flick is in discovering its surprises. Check the videos out below…

When he’s not obsessing over new Oscar predictions on a weekly basis, Joey is seeing between 300 and 350 movies a year. He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
