The 71st Cannes Film Festival is gearing up and the lineup announced has us as excited as ever as new films from Spike Lee, Asghar Farhadi, and Jean-Luc Godard will make an appearance.

In terms of an Oscar jump off, many films have found success out of Cannes including “The Tree of Life” and the Oscar-winning “No Country for Old Men.”  In terms of anticipation, “Everybody Knows” from Farhadi and “BlacKKKlansman” from Lee are the two high-profile films with the best chance at awards success.  For the more laid back awards enthusiasts, we’re anxiously awaiting the drop of “Under the Silver Lake” from David Robert Mitchell, who gave us the modern horror classic “It Follows.”

Out of Competition selections include the premiere of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” while in the Un Certain Regard we’re getting a look at the sophomore directorial effort from Valeria Golino, who you may know best as the beautiful love interest to Charlie Sheen’s chicken-bow-and-arrow-Rambo-wannabe in “Hot Shots.”

The Cannes Film Festival begins on Tuesday, May 8 until Saturday, May 19.  Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine,” “The Aviator”) will serve as the president of the main competition jury while Academy Award winner Benicio del Toro (“Traffic”) will be heading the Un Certain Regard.
