Social Media is a funny thing. You never can quite tell who you’re dealing with on Facebook and Twitter (as “Catfish“ can attest to), and usually you wind up disappointed by the in person version of someone these days, but every so often that’s not the case. I experienced this last week when I finally got to sit down face to face with The Spectacular Now director James Ponsoldt. Ever since I first praised his and Mary Elizabeth Winstead‘s work last year in Smashed, he’s been gracious and thankful for the kind words, which of course increased drastically after I saw his latest film at Sundance. Thusly, I was very curious what he’d be like when I sat down to interview him in a Manhattan hotel, but go figure…he was even nicer in person. We had a great chat about plenty of things, including what’s next for him.
