David Lowery‘s fantasy drama, “The Green Knight,” will world premiere at South By Southwest Film Festival March 16. The film, produced by A24, stars Dev Patel in an epic Arthurian quest as Sir Gawain. Lowery directs the feature as well as writes, edits and produces.
According to Deadline, “The Green Knight” is bound for Texas as it premieres ahead of its stateside release date of May 29. It stars Patel, who can also be seen in Armando Iannucci’s “The Personal History of David Copperfield,” a TIFF title that opened in the UK in January of this year and is slated for a US opening May 8.
“We are thrilled to world premiere The Green Knight at SXSW,” said Janet Pierson, Director of Film. “David Lowery is a singular artist with a filmmaking vision that’s both epic and intimate. It’s been beyond exciting to watch his growth as an artist. His newest film is an extraordinary achievement, delivering superlative performances, suspense, and magic with cinematic grandeur which we know our SXSW audience will love.”
Lowery pulls in the fantasy imagining of a medieval tale with the help of its lead, Academy Award nominee Patel (“Lion”, “Slumdog Millionaire”), and a cast that includes Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan, and Ralph Ineson. Lowery’s past projects to screen at SXSW include his award-winning narrative short, “Pioneer,” and his collaborative efforts as an editor on “It Was Great, But I Was Ready to Come Home,” “Bad Fever,” and “Sun Don’t Shine.”
SXSW Film Festival will run from March 13-22 in Austin, TX. “The Green Knight” is produced by A24 and premieres Monday, March 16 at 5:30 pm at the Paramount Theatre.
