ADG Awards: ‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,’ ‘Parasite’ Win Top Prizes

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

The Art Directors Guild hosted their 24th Annual Awards last night, with the ceremony taking place in Los Angeles.

On the film side, the big winners were “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,” “Parasite” and “Avengers: Endgame” with the first two in contention for the Best Production Design Oscar.

It was the first time either Academy Award nominee Barbara Ling (“Once Upon A Time in Hollywood”) or Academy Award Nominee Lee Ha-jun (“Parasite”) had been nominated with the ADG and now the pair will go against each other in an interesting Oscar battle. “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” is the presumed frontrunner in the category, but “Parasite” has only grown stronger as the guilds have progressed and a Production Design win wouldn’t be a surprise.

Charles Wood’s win for “Avengers: Endgame” marks his second victory with the ADG, having previously won for “Guardians of the Galaxy.” In the Animated Feature it was “Toy Story 4” that came out victorious in an award that is relatively new to the ADG Awards.

Over on the television side, “Chernobyl” continued its very impressive guild run winning for best Television Movie or Limited Series, whilst “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Russian Doll” and “The Umbrella Academy” also won prizes.

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” also won the prize last year for One Hour Period or Fantasy, whilst for “The Big Bang Theory” it would mark the show’s final appearance at the awards.

As reported by Deadline, honorary award recipients included Emmy Award Nominee Chuck Lorre (“The Big Bang Theory”), Academy Award Nominee Joe Alves (“Close Encounters of the Third Kind”), Denis Olsen (“Rocky III”), Stephen Myles Berger (“Basic Instinct”) and Jack Johnson (“The Goonies”).
