Amber Heard may be headed to Warner Bros.’s DC Universe. Heard is reportedly in talks to play the female lead in “Aquaman,” and would also have a role in the upcoming “Justice League” film.

According to multiple sources, Heard would play the role of Mera, the love interest to Aquaman. In the comics, Mera goes on to become the queen of Atlantis. She has the ability to control water and has limited telepathy, among other strengths.

If the deal goes through, Heard would star opposite Jason Momoa, who has been cast as Aquaman and has a rumored appearance in the upcoming film “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Momoa, as well as Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) and Ezra Miller (The Flash) are all said to show up briefly in the film for the first look at the Justice League, before reprising their roles in the “Justice League” standalone film.

“Justice League” is said to begin production this spring. Zack Snyder is set to direct, with a release date of Nov. 17.

The standalone “Aquaman” pic is being directed by James Wan. That film is washing onshore come July 27, 2018. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the script for the film is undergoing what is known as a dual track development, meaning that two different scripts for the film are being worked on at the same time.

Plot details surrounding the film are understandably scant, but the official logline from Warner Bros. reads:

“An icon for over 70 years, Aquaman is the King of the Seven Seas. This reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, is committed to protecting the entire globe.”

The news follows a busy year for Heard. Heard, who is newly married to Johnny Depp, was last seen in “Magic Mike XXL,” as well as in “The Danish Girl” with Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander. She also appeared in “The Adderall Diaries” opposite James Franco.
