‘American Hustle’ Moves Up a Week and ‘Monuments Men’ Gets February 2014 Release

680x478The final pieces of the puzzle are beginning to fall into place for two Sony flicks. In the aftermath of George Clooney‘s film The Monuments Men being surprisingly bumped to next year, the decision has been made to give David O. Russell‘s Oscar contender American Hustle some extra room to breathe and potentially make a bigger dent on the awards race. Now, it’s opening a week earlier than planned, on December 18th in wide release (though it’ll still start off limited a few days before that, on the 13th). As for Clooney’s now less likely contender (for next year’s Academy Awards, that is), the studio has set a release date of February 7th, which in turn will randomly push Robocop back to the 12th, in case you were wondering about that. You can see some more details below, but adjust your schedule accordingly.

Here’s what The Hollywood Reporter had to say, which is basically just the facts of the matter:

Monuments Men will be released on Feb. 7, 2014, Sony and Fox said Thursday.

MGM and Sony’s RoboCop will move 5 days to open on Feb 12th, 2014, just ahead of the 4-day President’s Day weekend.

Sony and Annapurna Pictures’ American Hustle also moves up a week, with the film opening wide on Dec. 18 after a limited release Dec. 13.

He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
