American Idol Top 25 Results Recap

America chose!  The results of the Top 25 were revealed on American Idol tonight.  Ryan Seacrest reveal the top five boys and girls that would advance to the Top 13.  Of the remaining contestants, judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler chose six wildcard contestants to take up the remaining spots in the finals.

Guys That Advanced

  • Phillip Phillips
  • Heejun Han
  • Joshua Ledet
  • Colton Dixon
  • Jermaine Jones

Girls That Advanced

  • Elise Testone
  • Skylar Laine
  • Jessica Sanchez
  • Hollie Cavanaugh
  • Shannon McGrane

No real surprises there.  I’m glad the REALLY terrible ones didn’t advance.  There are two very good men that made it (Phillips, Ledet) and three very good girls (Testone, Laine, Sanchez).  We may have a very good competition ahead of us.

The judges chose the final contestants for the Wild Card spots:

    • Jen Hirsch – Sang “Oh! Darling” by the Beatles
  • Starts off very shaky. By the middle of the song Jen lands her feet and hits some really amazing notes.
    • Jeremy Rosado – Sang “I Know You Won’t” by Carrie Underwood
  • Jeremy is one of my favorites this year.  Most authentic and pleasing tone of any of the male contestants.  Delivers an emotional and powerful performance of this Carrie Underwood number.  Chokes up at the end.  Sealed his deal into the Top 13.
    • Brielle Von Hugel – Sang “Someone Like You” by Adele
  • Terrible.  Terrible.  And more terrible.  Why did they choose her?  The worst performance of the wildcard contestants.
    • Deandre Brackensick – Sang “Georgia on my Mind” by Ray Charles
  • Deandre flips his hair about a dozen times before he sings.  His lower register is solid.  Falsetto is good but needs a bit of work.  If Deandre can keep his vocals consistent, he could be a contender.
    • Erika Van Pelt – Sang “Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga
  • Erika slows down the Gaga version to suit her raspy, sexy voice.  Misses a note here and there but I’m a fan.  Erika needs to fix her fashion sense because she wears very un-flattering clothing.  It’s shame because she’s actually beautiful.  Best girl of the leftovers.
    • Reed Grimm – Sang “Use Me” by Bill Withers
  • What a waste.  Reed doesn’t take it seriously.  He’s scatting like a mad man.  I get moments that he can sing but the rest is just nonsense.  This spot should have been used for Hallie Day.  Shame.
Advanced Contestants
  • Erika Van Pelt
  • Jeremy Rosado
  • Deandre Brackensick

Next week the guys take on the songs of Stevie Wonder.  The girls take on the songs of the late Whitney Houston.  Solid Top 13!  Sorry Vote for the Worst (they were pulling for Eben Francweicz)!
