Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master is gearing up to released later next month and with the recent announcement that it will have a screening at TIFF, this could be the beginning of a critical darling sweep. Early word is that Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman are incredible but the narrative is a struggle for some. Sasha Stone from Awards Daily said on our recent podcast that many say “it has no plot.” It’s hard for Oscar to get enthused about something when they don’t get it. We’ll have to see but The Weinstein Company have convinced voters that Chocolat, Shakespeare in Love, and The Reader were worth a place on a Best Picture lineup. Hence, this should be an easy get.
