Awards Circuit Power Hour Episode 61: Campaigning Issues, The Butler, and Oscar Check

PowerHour Logo New e1363615363457

PowerHour_Logo_NewWelcome to another edition of the Awards Circuit Power Hour, our weekly podcast diving deep into all things film, television, and entertainment.

  • We kick things off with the news about the (alleged?) decision to campaign three-time Oscar champ Meryl Streep in Supporting for August: Osage County.  Why do we think this is happening if its true?
  • That wasn’t the only news that Gold Derby broke this week.  Allegedly, George Clooney’s The Monuments Men is NOT an Oscar vehicle and will not get any awards campaign from Sony Pictures.  Mark is pretty upset about it.
  • We dive pretty deep into Lee Daniels’ The Butler.  We all seem to be on different sides from not liking it to thoroughly enjoying it.  Do we think this is an Oscar contender?  Do we think that Forest and Oprah are nominees by year’s end?
  • We finally talk about the films that have come out this year so far and what we have left to look forward to.  What Best Picture nominees do we have?  What is likely to crash and burn with audiences?

Gold Derby publish an article the same day to make a correction about their revelations on the Monuments Men campaign:

It’s only August and I’m already bored by the possibility of either Streep or Winfrey getting a nomination. There is such a thing as too much noise.
