Awards Circuit Power Hour Episode 93: Horror Film Evolution, Sequels and Remakes, and Circuit Madness Winner

POWERHOUR_LOGO_NEW1Welcome to another edition of the Awards Circuit Power Hour, our weekly podcast diving deep into all things film, television, and entertainment.

We go on for a while this week but it’s all with fascinating results.  We promise.

We kick things off with announcing the winner of the Circuit Madness tournament.  Meryl Streep vs. Elizabeth Taylor.  One of the hardest choices for many, but will the results surprise you?  Listen in.

We go over the news of last week that included images for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Godzilla, and Boyhood.  We talk about the prospects of those pictures and what they can bring to the 2014 landscape.

The troubled film Jane Got a Gun has been pulled from the calendar by Relativity Media.  This action brings us into a conversation about another troubled picture by Kenneth Lonergan titled Margaret, which garnered lots of admirers.

Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu’s Birdman has been given an Oscar-friendly release date in mid-October.  With the film not screening at Cannes, what can a film like that do this year?

A very interesting talk erupts about the entire horror genre thanks to Joseph Braverman’s terrific “Sci-Fi Friday piece” and who got their start there.  There are problems with the genre nowadays which lets us compare it to the films of the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s and how its all changed.

Thanks to a piece about sequels and remakes, we get into a hot debate about how films like Team America and Kill Bill would fare with another installment to the franchises.

Finally, we are seven episodes from our 100th episode!  We are taking personal questions from you every week about just about anything and how you can get to know us better.  Make sure to send one in.

We get into some talk about future projects like “Batman vs. Superman,” DVD releases this week, and more.
