Beginning from today April 8, AwardsCircuit has added a COVID-19 statistic counter at the top of the homepage in an attempt to raise continued awareness of the disease as well as to promote social distancing.
The coronavirus pandemic has caused widespread disruption all across the globe, with many countries in lockdown and governments urging its citizens to stay at home to avoid spread of the disease and to ease pressure on hospitals. The disease does not discriminate, with a number of high profile cases across the world including actors Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Idris Elba as well as the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Cinemas have been shut all around the world, as well as productions on film and television shows suspended and film festivals either cancelled or postponed.
It is extremely vital for everyone to take the advice of their leaders and understand the importance of social distancing. The disease spreads rapidly from person-to-person and limiting the amount of contact with others is essential to saving lives, no matter how hard it can be to stay away from loved ones and close friends. At the time of writing, there have been over 1.4 million cases worldwide, with over 81,000 tragically losing their lives.
Further down the homepage, a COVID-19 live data table can also be found which gives more depth into the individual countries. The total number of deaths, recoveries and active cases are compared with each other and there is hope at least that those recovery numbers continue to be much higher than the death toll.
This addition to the AwardsCircuit homepage will serve as a reminder to readers all over the world the importance of this message and the seriousness of the virus. It will remain displayed on the site until the crisis comes to its end, hopefully as soon as possible.
During these troubling times, AwardsCircuit also recently launched the Community Engagement Initiative last month, which has included the brand new must-see series “CIRCUIT BREAKER: THE EXTRAS” where editor-in-chief Clayton Davis talks to some of the most talented members of the film industry about their careers and love of cinema. So far guests have included “Richard Jewell” leading man Paul Walter Hauser, Academy Award nominated producer Todd Lieberman (“The Fighter”) and most recently, Oscar nominated “Mudbound” writer Virgil Williams. Check these out if you haven’t already.
The importance of staying at home and social distancing can not be stressed enough and AwardsCircuit hopes that these live updates will encourage readers to continue doing so. This crisis will come to an end eventually and how quickly that happens depends on the role all of us play in the coming weeks and months. Stay safe.
