Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Team-Up for McDonald’s Monopoloy Fraud Movie

There are few modern duos that receive as much praise as Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. The two celebrities are well known for their personal history together, both on and off screen. Their best work to date is still “Good Will Hunting,” an iconic drama of the late 1990s. They won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay on that film. However, they’ve worked sparingly together since then, with Kevin Smith’s Dogma” becoming one of the exceptions. Now, with Affleck’s clout as a director and Damon’s continuing strength as an actor, the two are teaming up for what looks like a wacky and comedic film.

According to Deadline, Affleck and Damon will be reuniting to work on a Fargo-esque story. The plot revolves around defrauding McDonald’s to the tune of $24 Million. The scam, run by an ex-cop, required several co-conspirators and became a quick interest of film studios. The story will be based on the Daily Beast article “How an Ex-Cop Rigged McDonald’s Monopoly Game and Stole Millions” by Jeff Maysh. “Deadpool” writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick will write the screenplay.

According to Maysh’s story, the ex-cop turned LA security guard Jerry Jacobson was uncovered in a sting for selling stolen McDonald’s Monopoly pieces. The story takes an outlandish turn, involving the mob, strip clubs, drug traffickers, a psychic, and even a Mormon family. All told, Jacobson and his co-conspirators stole more than $24 Million in prizes.

The plot of the film sounds like it’s tailor-made for an “Ocean’s 11” style movie, and luckily, we know Damon can handle that. While Affleck’s directorial films have taken a slightly more serious tone, especially “Argo” and “The Town,” Affleck is good at directing crime films. This is definitely a project to keep an eye on.

What do you think of Damon’s and Affleck’s choice to reunite? Is this the project to bring them back to the Oscars? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
