Ben Affleck will direct and co-write his own ‘Batman’ film

Batman-V-Superman-Armored-Batsuit-Costume-Comic-ConI suppose this was basically an assumption that’s just been confirmed, but we now know one reason why Ben Affleck accepted the gig of playing Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (as well as in Justice League and Suicide Squad, for that matter). Reports have him officially being named as the director and co-writer of a stand-alone Batman film, set for release in probably 2019 (possibly called The Batman). The good news surrounding that is that it’s going to be after he gets to direct his delayed project Live By Night, so that flick isn’t going by the wayside for much longer. An interesting detail here is that he’ll be co-writing the Batman script with comic book writer Geoff Johns, so that could be something unique. Other rumors previously had Chris Terrio potentially lending a hand as well, but nothing on that right now. Personally, I’ve loved all three movies Affleck directed and was a big fan of Christopher Nolan‘s takes on the caped crusader (if not Tim Burton and Joel Schumaker‘s), so this is a pairing I can get behind. It’s still a ways off, but certainly stay tuned for much more on Affleck’s Batman film when we have it. Count me in as excited…
