Ben Affleck’s ‘Live By Night’ gets moved into 2017

Ben AffleckFor some reason, Warner Brothers and Ben Affleck just can’t figure out exactly when to get going with Live By Night. Originally assumed to have been a 2015 awards season directorial outing for Affleck (he’d also co-write and star), the film has now apparently moved out of the 2016 Oscar calendar as well. Reports have WB bumping the project from October 7th of next year to a still be decided 2017 date. Obviously, it’ll likely remain in the fall for Academy consideration, but it seems like his duties as Batman/Bruce Wayne (particularly the solo caped crusader project he’s working on) are starting to get in the way for him. It’s not necessarily bad news, just a bummer if you’re like me and eagerly awaiting more filmmaking projects from Affleck. There’s a silver lining to be found though, as the studio has also given an upgraded release date to Affleck’s assassin flick The Accountant, taking it from January 29th of next year and giving it the October spot that Live By Night originally had. I’m definitely curious to see The Accountant, which could be fun, but Live By Night is really the one to hold out for. We’ll still see it, just a year later than expected. Stay tuned for more when we have it folks…

He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
