Box Office Results (04.21.13)

Pawn-2013-Movie-Poster-2Internationally, ‘Oblivion‘ (Uni.) banks high for the charts. ‘42‘ (WB) dominated the daily charts as well as #1 this week at the box office. Surprisingly, ‘Scary Movie 5‘ (W/Dim.) placed 2nd, followed by ‘The Croods‘ (Fox), ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation‘ (Par.), and ‘Evil Dead (2013)‘ (TriS) at #5. ‘Jurassic Park 3D‘ (Uni.) scares up #6, ‘Olympus Has Fallen‘ (FD) falls to #7, ‘Oz The Great and Powerful‘ (BV) follows, just ahead of ‘Tyler Perry’s Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor‘ (LGF)  and ‘The Place Beyond the Pines‘ (Focus) at #10. Meanwhile, additional new releases include ‘To The Wonder‘ (Magn.) at #31, ‘Not Today‘ (Free) at #35, and ‘Fists of Legend‘ (CJ) at #45 within the top 50.

This weekend, ‘Oblivion‘ landed in at #1, having been released on Friday, leading the box office titles and followed by ‘42‘, ‘The Croods‘, ‘Scary Movie 5‘ and the Joes at #5. Jumping up to #6 is ‘The Place Beyond The Pines‘, followed by ‘Olympus Has Fallen‘, creepy sequel ‘Evil Dead (2013)‘, the rerelease of dinosaurs in 3D, and ‘Oz The Great and Powerful‘ rounds up the top 10 for this weekend. New releases within the top 50 include ‘Home Run‘ (Gold.) at #12, followed closely by ‘Filly Brown‘ (LGF) at #13 and ‘The Lords of Salem‘ (Anch.) at #16. Further down the charts, in at #37, ‘In the House’ (Cohen) sits at #37, whereas ‘Pawn‘ (Anch.), who relatively tanks on their first weekend, trails at #46.

Upcoming releases include ‘Pain and Gain‘ and ‘Midnight’s Children‘, who have to compete with the anticipated star-studded comedy ‘The Big Wedding‘ starring Amanda Seyfried in, yet, another bridal role. ‘Mud‘ starring Matthew McConaughey also played well at the film festivals, along with ‘Kon-Tiki‘, an epic story about one man’s an oceanic journey, both of which will be released this upcoming week.
