michael-bay-directorIt’s no secret that there are plenty of bad ideas in Hollywood, but I try to be optimistic about all of them when they’re first announced. After all, you really never can be sure how something might turn out. How bad an idea did a remake of 21 Jump Street sound? Sometimes, we wind up with magic. In this particular instance though, I don’t think there’s anyway around it…Michael Bay directing a movie centered about Benghazi is a straight up terrible idea. Reports have the director negotiating to take the helm of 13 Hours, which is about the infamous attack and is written by Chuck Hogan, based on the book Thirteen Hours: A Firsthand Account Of What Really Happened In Benghazi by Mitchell Zuckoff. It’s supposedly an action movie, which you could already assume because of Bay’s involvement, but it’s the sort of thing that really needs a soft touch, due to the political stupidity that surrounds what should be a tragedy, plain and simple. As we all know though, one thing Bay does not have is a soft touch. I can’t see this not being a cringe inducing experience, but I’ll at least try to imagine a world in which he turns this into a good film. Anything is possible, I suppose. When we learn more about 13 Hours, we’ll bring it to you, but at the very least, maybe they’ll be a good cast to offset Bay? Sigh…
