Allied,” a WWII romantic thriller starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, is set for an awards season release date of Nov. 23.

The film, which is being directed by Robert Zemeckis, follows Max Vatan (Pitt), a French-Canadian intelligence officer who meets a French Resistance fighter (Cotillard) while on a dangerous mission in Casablanca in 1942. The two fall in love and marry. Later on, the relationship they’ve forged is put to the test when Max is told his wife may actually be a Nazi spy, forcing him to investigate her.

Jared Harris (“Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows”), Lizzy Caplan (“Masters of Sex”) and Matthew Goode (“Downton Abbey”) also star in the film.

Steven Knight (“The Hundred-Foot Journey”) wrote the screenplay. The Academy Award-winning producer of “The Departed,” Graham King, is on board to produce with Zemeckis and Steve Starkey.

The cast and crew of the film have quite the pedigree. Zemeckis previously won the Oscar for Best Director for his 1994 film “Forrest Gump,” starring Tom Hanks. Pitt won two Oscars for producing the films “The Departed” and “12 Years A Slave.” He has also been nominated for three acting Oscars: once for Best Supporting Actor for “12 Monkeys” and twice for Best Actor for “Moneyball” and “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” Cotillard won Best Actress for “La Vie en Rose.” She is the only actor to win an Oscar for a performance in French.

“Allied” is currently shooting in London. The news was announced at CinemaCon earlier this week.
