Just recently, we featured a story about Kevin Feige promising that diversity was coming to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Namely, he mentioned that Marvel would be hiring a number of female filmmakers to helm their upcoming projects. Well, that still remains to be seen, but their upcoming movie “Captain Marvel” is shaping up to be a major step in the right direction. In many ways, it’s a sign of what could be to come for the MCU. Not only is it co-directed by a woman in Anna Boden (working with her longtime filmmaking partner Ryan Fleck), but there is poised to be another strong woman’s creative force behind the scenes as well.
According to The Playlist, “Captain Marvel” will feature a female composer. This will be the first time that the company has had a woman composing a score for them. Specifically, it’s Pinar Toprak who has gotten the gig. Especially considering how (tragically) there aren’t many female composers in the business, this is nice to see. Toprak will be doing the music for Boden and Fleck, while Brie Larson plays the title role. Among the co-stars for this one will be Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, Djimon Hounsou, Samuel L. Jackson, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, and more.
Here is the announcement from Instagram:
I’m so thrilled to finally announce that I will be scoring the upcoming CAPTAIN MARVEL! It’s an incredible honor to be a part of the Marvel Universe. So many thoughts racing through my head. And the main one is gratitude. I have so many people to thank for helping me on this journey but first and foremost, my incredible agents Laura Engel and Richard Kraft for believing in me from day one and Dave Jordan and directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck for giving me this opportunity of a lifetime. #captainmarvel
