Focus Features has released the poster for the upcoming political comedy “Irresistible” as per Collider, which has been written and directed by Jon Stewart and stars Steve Carell.

Carell is the focal piece of the poster, which can be found above, with Collider writing the following synopsis:

“[Carell] plays a consultant who tries to help a retired Marine colonel run for mayor of a small Wisconsin town, but whose job becomes more difficult when his rival supports the opposition.”

Carell is joined by an ensemble that includes Academy Award winner Chris Cooper (“Adaptation”) who plays the retired Marine, as well as Mackenzie Davis (“Halt And Catch Fire”), Topher Grace (“BlacKkKlansman”), Natasha Lyonne (“Russian Doll”) and Rose Byrne (“Spy”).

The film will be the second directed feature from Stewart, who previously directed the political drama “Rosewater” in 2014, telling the story of Maziar Bahari’s imprisonment in Iran. He’s won a jaw-dropping tally of 22 Emmy Awards in total for various talk shows, including as a writer and producer on “The Daily Show” and “The Late Show with David Colbert.” He hosted the satirical news show “The Daily Show” from 1999 all the way through to 2015.

Carell meanwhile, has enjoyed a lot of success in films and television since the hit U.S. version of “The Office” ended in 2013. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in “Foxcatcher,” and received praise for his role in “Last Flag Flying” as a mourning father. He played Bobby Riggs in “Battle of the Sexes” which earnt him an unexpected SAG nomination as well as playing Donald Rumsfeld in the Academy Award-nominated film “Vice.” He recently starred in the first season of “The Morning Show” alongside Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston, the debut show from new streaming service Apple TV+.

“Irresistible” is one of many 2020 releases for Focus Features, with “Never Rarely, Sometimes Always” coming this month, winner of the Silver Bear at this year’s Berlin Film Festival. “Promising Young Woman,” “The High Note,” “Let Him Go” and Edgar Wright’s “Last Night in Soho” is also part of this year’s slate for Focus Features.
