Netflix has released a huge update on “The Witcher” series. New images have been unveiled for the upcoming fantasy action drama about monster hunter Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill (“Man of Steel,” “Mission: Impossible- Fallout”). The series is an adaptation of short story novels by author Andrzej Sapkowski. The stories were also translated into role-playing video games where players can see Geralt battle with swords against both humans and beasts, along with alchemy dabbling.

Official Netflix synopsis:

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together

Cavill hangs up the Superman cape for a while as he ventures into the deep fantasy genre of finding his place in a world embattled with monsters. The first season will run for eight episodes, headed by Lauren Schmidt (“The Umbrella Academy,” “Daredevil”), who writes two of the episodes. It was also announced the series will be present at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego at panel Hall H, set for Saturday, July 20 at 2:15 p.m. With no release date as of now, more details will be expected at the SDCC panel.

The cast for “The Witcher” includes Jodhi May (“Game of Thrones”) as Calanthe, Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (“Fortitude”) as Eist, Adam Levy (“Knightfall”) as Mousesack, MyAnna Buring (“Ripper Street”) as Tissaia, Mimi Ndiweni (“Black Earth Rising”) as Fringilla, Therica Wilson-Read (“Profile”) as Sabrina, and Emma Appleton (“The End of The F**king World”) as Renfri, Eamon Farren (“The ABC Murders”) as Cahir, Joey Batey (“Knightfall”) as Jaskier, Lars Mikkelsen (“House of Cards”) as Stregobor, Royce Pierreson (“Wanderlust”) as Istredd, Maciej Musia (“1983”) as Sir Lazlo, Wilson Radjou-Pujalte (“Jamillah & Aladdin”) as Dara, and Anna Shaffer (“Harry Potter”) as Triss.
