The much anticipated first look at Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader has arrived. Director Matt Reeves posted footage of the British actor in full Batman costume, accompanied by Michael Giacchino’s score, on his Vimeo. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the test footage had been filmed by cinematographer Greig Fraser.
The decision to tease the costume early appears to be something that DC are going to be doing more frequently, given how well it worked with “Joker” last year. Fans of the Dark Knight now have something to to discuss and digest for a few months whilst they wait for even more news regarding “The Batman.” It also allows Reeves to reveal the look of the character in his own way, rather than allowing paparazzi to snap pictures and post them without context.
The footage however is very dark, with Pattinson shrouded in a dim red light. It’s clear that whilst Reeves and co. want fans to get a glimpse, there’s still much to be left to the imagination.
It was announced at the end of last month by Reeves on Twitter that filming had begun in London. Pattinson is joined by Colin Farrell, Zoe Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Paul Dano, and Jeffrey Wright to make up the film’s ensemble. Peter Sarsgaard is now also part of the cast.
There is still no news on plot details as of yet, but given how open Reeves has been with reveals on social media, expect something in the next few months. It’s been a clever marketing strategy for the team working on “The Batman” to control the buzz and slowly build up hype for what is sure to be one of the biggest films next year.

“The Batman” is slated for a June 25, 2021 release, from Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.
