CHECK OUT: The First Image from ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ is Here

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood First Look

As production is officially underway on Quentin Tarantino‘s next project, we have our first look at two of our stars.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt lead the who’s who cast, and are the first actors we get to see in their character duds. The film takes place in 1969, although some eagle-eyed viewers were quick to note that the costumes in this picture look more true to the 1970s. What, if anything, does that mean for the story?

And that story does seem to be a bit of a puzzle, still. The IMDb synopsis says:

A TV actor and his stunt double embark on an odyssey to make a name for themselves in the film industry during the Charles Manson murders in 1969 Los Angeles.

Tarantino has vehemently denied that this film is about Manson or the murders of Sharon Tate and Leno and Rosemary LaBianca. But the film is scheduled to be released on the 50th anniversary of Tate’s murder. And she is portrayed by Margot Robbie in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

But then, a lot of the time period’s noteworthy people will pop up in the film. Damian Lewis plays Steve McQueen. Emile Hirsch returns to the screen as Jay Sebring. Al Pacino is producer Marvin Schwartz. There are also roles for Dakota Fanning, Luke Perry, Timothy Olyphant, Michael Madsen, Burt Reynolds, Clifton Collins Jr, and more. There were rumors that Tarantino was looking for someone to play Tate’s husband, Roman Polanski. Either they ditched that plan or are keeping the casting under wraps for now.

Very excited fans flooded Twitter and Instagram last week. The famed ArcLight Theater, formerly the CineramaDome on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood was transformed for what appeared to be a 1960s movie premiere.

Quentin Tarantino has said this film will be the closest in style to “Pulp Fiction,” the film that earned him his first Academy Award in 1994. He writes and directs this original screenplay.

“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” will be distributed by Sony. It is scheduled for release on August 9, 2019.
