I think Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale made it pretty clear that The Dark Knight Rises was the end of their Batman story, so I’m not quite sure why it is news now that Bale won’t reprise his role in The Justice League movie. But apparently it is, as the actor recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly to confirm the fact that he will not don the mask and cape again, stating “It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with.”
It doesn’t sound like Warner Brothers will be tying in The Dark Knight trilogy with the new Justice League films. But I say, why not? At the end of The Dark Knight Rises (spoiler alert), we learn the identity of Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s character and see him discover the Bat Cave, leading us to believe he would be the one to carry the aforementioned torch. So why not continue his story into Justice League? You might lose Nolan and Bale, but you can still tie in the incredible DK trilogy to the upcoming JL films this way. Brilliant, right? I know. Warner Brothers, call me, maybe?
