On the agenda:

  • Clayton had jury duty this week and tells us all about it. A discussion of past experiences on juries follows.
  • A look at the box office, which was led by “Abominable.” Following that, a look at if any of the year’s top-grossing films will be major award contenders like “Aladdin” and “Captain Marvel.”
  • Where and when will the world experience Sam Mendes’ “1917” and how is Universal Pictures going to handle its slate that includes “Cats,” “Queen & Slim,” and “Us.”
  • The New York Film Festival officially opened up with Martin Scorsese‘s epic “The Irishman.” Going over the reactions from those that were in attendance.  Is it an awards player and can Scorsese nab a second Oscar for it?
  • A discussion on where everyone sees “Avengers: Endgame” in the Best Picture race.
  • Best Director talk, with a focus on the DGA and if First Time Feature could have an all-female lineup for the first time in history?  Can any of them translate to the Academy?  Is that category made for Olivia Wilde for “Booksmart?”
  • Some further Oscar check-ins following screenings of Taika Waititi’s “Jojo Rabbit,” (the Thomasin McKenzie show?) Rupert Goold’s “Judy,” (which opened in theaters) and the Best Actor race (top-heavy with just nine contenders?).
  • Ending with Golden Globe chatter that includes some exclusive news on Lulu Wang’s “The Farewell” and its eligibility and all the classification discrepancies that the HFPA continues to have.

Hope you all enjoy!

I’ve noticed that Circuit Breakers have been released in bundles. How come they are not released weekly?

blake011

I don’t know if I would drop 1917 so fast. It seems like I’ve heard several things online that 1917 shouldn’t be slept on.

After Hours by Scorsese is amazing and my personal favorite.

Adam Droge

I’ve seen most of Hitchcock’s movies and Psycho is still my favorite. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

Guillermo Anaya

Cuestión for the Next podcast, best actress and s actress look Open , seems Renee and Scarlett are in. Jlo and Laura Dern too. Could we see difierent names at sag, gg and Oscars? Kind of like the year with helen mirren and sarah silverman at sag?

Raul Gama

Question for next podcast:

Sometimes deleted scenes from the film are released separetedly in dvd or now youtube, have you ever seen a scene that was cut out that could have given an actor a better chance at an oscar win?

I.e. Amy Adams, American Hustle “Cry British” full scene is a masterclass i belive could’ve given her a case.
