Films face delays for many reasons. It could be a real-life event impacting it’s release or perhaps an incident with the cast. In the past few weeks alone we have seen the likes of James Bond and Peter Rabbit be pushed due to the Coronavirus. With “The Hunt” being released this week and the recently announced postponement of “My Spy” let’s look at the films that got a delay and whether they worth the wait or not.
Recently, the acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney had caused a few delays to the previously announced schedule of films. Released last September, “Ad Astra” was originally planned to release in January of 2019. It however instead found itself delayed due to the merger. “The New Mutants” is finally being released next month after nearly two years since it’s original planned release. However, with no assurance of where these characters would fit in the MCU it’s no surprise was pushed back.
When 9/11 happened, the world was in shock. As such studios reacted by looking over their slate and making changes, delaying or cancelling films all together. Famously, “Spider-Man” featured the World Trade Centre in it’s trailer. In terms of delayed films the likes “Collateral Damage” and “Bad Company” featured plot points around terrorism and saw delays of several months each. The light hearted comedy “View from the Top” also faced a delay of over a year due to it’s aviation heavy plot.
Sometimes the delays come as a direct result of the films production. For example “Jane Got a Gun” went from an original release date of August 2014 to January 2016. This was due to director Lynne Ramsay leaving after a standoff with producers over who had the films final cut. “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” faced nearly a year delay due to an onset injury. Lead actor Dylan O’Brien suffered an accident during filming which saw him need months of recovery.
It is now up to you to choose your favorite! We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts and opinions on the best of these delayed films.
