Over the past week or so, we’ve been asking about actors and filmmakers who are overdue for Oscar attention. We’ve hit on actors and actress due nominations, as well as wins, plus filmmakers who need a nod. Today, we turn our attention to those writers and directors in need of turning a nom into a win with the Academy. Who are the filmmakers overdue for an Academy Award? That’s what we aim to find out.
A few huge names spring to mind. Paul Thomas Anderson, David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, and Ridley Scott are at the forefront of any list. They’re considered among the top directors in Hollywood and have come close to wins in the past, but have yet to get over the hump. If any of them were to win an Oscar, they would undoubtedly be due a standing ovation.
Other filmmakers of note who have yet to win Oscars include Darren Aronofsky, Todd Haynes, Richard Linklater, and David O. Russell. Then, there’s solely writers like Nick Hornby, Tony Kushner, and the duo of Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. Throw in cinematographers like Matthew Libatique, Rachel Morrison, and Bradford Young, plus composers like Nicholas Britell and Thomas Newman, and you have a hell of a lineup. This is just the start of any long list too, mind you. Your favorites may not be listed, but that’s mainly due to how many deserving folks have yet to crack the Oscar code.
The ball is in your court. Which filmmakers need an Oscar ASAP? Let us know!
