Circuit Q&A: What Is Your Favorite Sandra Bullock Performance?

Besides her acting, Sandra Bullock is best known as one of America’s sweethearts. Her winsome public persona has won people’s hearts since the 1990s. In addition, she’s quite adept at handling both comedy and drama. To celebrate her birthday, we’ll be acknowledging her versatile acting talents.

Bullock first rose to prominence in “Demolition Man” back in 1993. While Wesley Snipes and Sylvester Stallone were the film’s stars, Bullock was still praised for her work. However, the action film “Speed” is where she officially arrived. Starring opposite Keanu Reeves, Bullock plays a passenger trying to save a bus rigged with a bomb. “Speed” was a box office smash, grossing $350 million worldwide, and won six MTV Movie Awards. Bullock won four of them including Best Female Performance.

The following year, Bullock solidified her leading lady status. She carried the romantic comedy “While You Were Sleeping” and earned her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture-Musical/Comedy. Later that year came “The Net,” a cyber thriller. Despite its mixed reception, Bullock still made “The Net” a commercial hit.

Five years later, Bullock starred in one of her most iconic roles. In “Miss Congeniality,” she plays Gracie Hart, an FBI agent going undercover in the Miss USA pageant. Bullock earned her second Golden Globe nomination for her performance and the film earned $212 million worldwide.

At the end of the 2000s, Bullock managed to achieve a career high. Aside from the underwhelming “All About Steve,” 2009 was an exemplary year for Bullock. She began the year with “The Proposal,” her fourth most successful picture to date. Then came the sports drama “The Blind Side” where she earned her first nomination, and eventual win, for Best Actress at the Academy Awards.

Not too long after came “Gravity,” Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi epic that nearly swept the 86th Academy Awards. Because the film is a practical one-woman show, it rests entirely on Bullock’s shoulders. Yet, she carries it with ease and arguably gives the performance of her career.

It’s now time to toss things off to you! We’re curious as to which performance from the acclaimed actress you think is a career highlight.
