Circuit Q&A — What’s Your Favorite George Clooney Performance?

**Circuit Q&A’s are our daily community question, posed to the readers of AwardsCircuit that cover various topics from film and television to general wonderings and for instances**

Today marks actor George Clooney’s birthday. The actor is a human rights activist, Oscar winner, director, writer and producer. He’s a multiple Golden Globe nominee (three-time winner) and two-time Oscar winner who turns 58 today. From being a cue card boy for his anchorman father at eight-years-old, to now being one of Hollywood’s most recognized actors, Clooney’s career has stretched far.

When he’s not collaborating with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, Clooney is recognized for his great humanitarian efforts he pursues alongside his career. He’s a former United Nations Messenger of Peace and used his platform to bring awareness to the 2005 Darfur crisis. We celebrate him today by reflecting on his best performances throughout the years. Of all his roles, what’s your favorite George Clooney performance?

“Up in the Air” (2009) directed by Jason Reitman

His Academy Award nominated lead roles include “Michael Clayton,” “Up in the Air” and “The Descendants.” It was 2005’s “Syriana” where he struck Oscar gold for supporting actor. In 2013 he won his second Academy Award for his work producing the Affleck-starring and directed “Argo.” Throughout Clooney’s career, he’s worked under directors like Quentin Tarantino (“From Dusk Till Dawn”), Mimi Leder (“The Peacemaker”), Wes Anderson (“Fantastic Mr. Fox”) and the Coen brothers (“Hail, Caesar,” “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”). It’s quite the feat when Clooney can go from being a criminal among vampires with Tarantino, to voice-acting one of Wes Anderson’s finest animated figures.

In 2015, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association honored the actor with the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Certainly, Clooney’s portfolio speaks for itself. One of his most iconic performances was as sly con artist Danny Ocean in Steven Soderbergh’s “Ocean’s Eleven.” Backed by an incredible ensemble of actors, Danny Ocean would be one of cinema’s notorious heist men, thanks to the film and the sequels that followed. Soderbergh’s earlier crime drama “Out of Sight” put Clooney at the center of another heist job narrative. As bank robber Jack Foley, Clooney’s suave charm even gets him in and out of a bank holdup as he sweet talks his way.

Also in the actor’s filmography, Clooney starred in Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants” as a father who struggles with his wife’s impending death after a serious accident. The film follows his character as he rebuilds relationships and struggles through betrayal and loss alongside his daughters. In other words, a very good performance from the birthday boy.
