Circuit Round-Up (Week Ending 11/04)

  • Hello Readers! What a week we’ve had here at the AC to see us into November. For one week only I’ll be bringing you our Sunday round up of all the juiciest bits from the past seven days, as our regular host Joseph is currently doing a sterling job of covering AFI-Fest.
  • Halloween was the topic of the week as our 31 Days of Horror series drew to a spectacular close. Editor Clayton Davis gave a considered look at 7 horror movies the Academy shouldn’t have been afraid of, Joey Magidson argued for the all time greatest on-screen death, and Terence Johnson rounded off his tremendous list of the 100 finest horror flicks with his highly anticipated Top 10.
  • Our resident film professor John H. Foote talked us through his Top 10 Robert Zemeckis movies to tie in with the release of his latest film Flight. Meanwhile Mark Johnson chose Richard Dreyfuss as the subject for his popular Circuit 3 segment.
  • As always there were a multitude of film reviews to help you decide what to spend those hard-earned wages on this weekend. Tiff Chai brought us great reviews of documentaries Samsara and Bound By Flesh, as well as Oscar player Life of Pi. Nicole Melkonian warned us of the awkwardness of Starlet. Joey talked us through his feelings on Flight and The Bay, and Joseph urged us to go and see Wreck-It Ralph and Hitchcock. As if that wasn’t enough, this week Terence provided our very first theatre review. Check out his take on The Heiress starring Jessica Chastain right here.
  • This week’s Power Hour podcast was yet another standout edition. Topics discussed include Cloud Atlas’s Oscar chances, the state of the Best Documentary race, the relevance of the Satellite Awards, and as always a host of your questions. If you haven’t listened yet then what are you waiting for? Tune in now.
  • Finally we always like to take a moment to look forward to the coming week here at The Awards Circuit, and we really have a special one planned for you starting tomorrow. To coincide with the US release of Skyfall we’re donning our tuxedos and serving our Martinis shaken, not stirred for Bond Week! There will be multiple reviews of the fantastic Skyfall, as well as a new 007-themed Circuit 3 each day, with plenty of other great articles to satisfy all your Bond needs. Don’t miss out!
