Circuit Round-Up (Week Ending 5/5)

  • What better way to kick off the summer than with Mark Johnson’s 10 Most Anticipated Films of Summer 2013. Make it a goal to catch every one of those films on Mark’s list — I know I will! If anything, you’ll avoid getting a sunburn (aloe vera costs a fortune these days!).
  • Joey Magidson’s newest DVD Pick-of-the-Week was one of the few times my gut turned out to be right. Yes, Silver Linings Playbook seemed somewhat of a gamble to predict for “Best Picture” pre-Toronto Film Festival, but I stuck with it and low and behold…I earned my bragging rights! The film — and box office smash — racked up eight nominations in total, including Best Picture and nods in all four acting categories. I might not be as big on this film as most are (that cutesy ending was too safe and predictable for me), but it holds a special place in my heart since it’s my father’s favorite film of 2012 thanks to a personal issue it touches on that he’s currently going through. It’s always great to see a director and their film inspire and deeply affect an immediate family member!
  • Some latest news you should all be aware of: the Los Angeles Film Festival has announced its lineup (the LA crew, including yours truly, will be there to cover it), The Academy™ adjusts its rules slightly but not the one many wanted, and Disney© continues to score big with wins at the 2013 Golden Trailer Awards.
  • Finally, let’s all take a moment to bow because we’ve hit our fifth year as a site! Yes indeed, The Awards Circuit’s 5th Year Anniversary has passed, and we thank you all for your loyalty and readership throughout the years. Without your support, it goes without saying that we wouldn’t have made it this far. Here’s to another five years, and please don’t forget to submit your questions for our upcoming 50th Episode Podcast! Take care, and a huge thanks and congrats all around. We’ve got the best readers anywhere on the web.
