Community Reactions: Brain vs. Brawn vs. Fluff(y)?

Weekend Releases:

This weekend sees a sci-fi, Luc Besson-enhanced ScarJo combatting an amped up, bedraggled demigod at the box office. In terms of ticket sales, Lucy has the upper hand, having earned $2.7 million last night and beating Hercules by a cool 600k. But, in spite of only screening for critics a mere hour before its public release, Hercules holds a 66% score on Rotten Tomatoes, stomping out Lucy‘s 61%. Will Rock beat Black Widow? We shall have to wait until Sunday’s box office reports to see if Black Widow is paper, scissors or glue.

Other films opening in wide release this weekend include The Fluffy Movie(“fluffy” Gabriel Iglesias‘s comedy concert film), Step Up: All In(yup, there’s another one), and And So It Goes (hokey rom com starring Diane Keaton and Michael Douglas, with Rob Reiner at the helm). For those with a more independent palate (or who prefer VOD in the privacy of their own living/bedroom), specialty openings include Sundance favorites Happy Christmas (Joe Swanberg‘s latest mumblecore family dramedy with Melanie Lynskey, Anna Kendrick and Lena Dunham) and A Most Wanted Man (Anton Corbijn’s adaptation of the John le Carré novel, with the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Willem Dafoe and Robin Wright), along with Magic in the Moonlight(Woody Allen‘s dated romance starring Colin Firth and Emma Stone).

As always, we’ve scoured the interwebs for interesting tweets and reads about this weekend’s film offerings. Peruse below and feel free to let us know about your own weekend plans (film-related or otherwise).

Quick thoughts:
HERCULES: Awesome.
LUCY: That was 1/3 great, 1/3 filler, 1/3 kind of racist.
FLUFFY: Don’t care…
AND SO IT GOES: …even a bit.
