The 22nd annual Costume Designers Guild Awards have been presented, and there was an upset victory. “Jojo Rabbit” took home the prize for Excellence in Period Film, coming out on top against fellow Oscar nominee “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.”

Taika Waititi’s Nazi comedy has been given a big momentum boost in this category. With “Joker,” “The Irishman,” and “Little Women” not even nominated with the guild, Mayes C. Rubeo will now assume frontrunner status at the Oscars.

Elsewhere, “Knives Out” won Excellence in Contemporary Film, in a category that was void of any Oscar contenders. The same can be said in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category, which was won by “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.” The latter marks Ellen Mirojnick’s third win with the guild, winning previously for “The Knick” and “Behind the Candelabra” in the television categories. She is also a recipient of the Film & Television Lifetime Achievement award.

Other winners included “Game of Thrones” for Excellence in Sci-Fi/Fantasy Television and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” for Excellence in Period Television.

As per Deadline, Academy Award winner and “Bombshell” star Charlize Theron was given the Spotlight Award and fellow Academy Award winner Adam McKay was awarded the Distinguished Collaborator Award. Costumer designer Mary Ellen Fields was given the Distinguished Service Award.
