Danny Boyle is planning to make his next film a ‘Trainspotting’ sequel

Trainspotting221Hot off the heels of Danny Boyle‘s upcoming film Steve Jobs premiering to excellent reviews at the Telluride Film Festival as a “work in progress” (ahead of an actual debut soon at the New York Film Festival), news has potentially broken on his next project. Reports have Boyle actually planning to finally make a sequel to Trainspotting, with a large grouping of the original cast returning. Irvine Welsh wrote the original novel as well as the follow up Porno, upon which this would probably be based. Some of the stars of Boyle’s film included Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner, and Kelly Macdonald, while there’s no word on if scribe John Hodge would be on board again. Boyle says it’s just a matter of making the schedules for the main four in the cast work, since they all want to do it (I presume that’s McGregor, Miller and some combination of the rest, perhaps Carlyle and Macdonald). If it does actually happen, be it as Porno or something else, with Hodge or without, etc, we’ll have all the news on it, so stay tuned. In the meantime, we have Steve Jobs in this year’s Oscar race to look forward to…

He views the best in order to properly analyze the awards race/season each year, but he also watches the worst for reasons he mostly sums up as "so you all don't have to". In his spare time, you can usually find him complaining about the Jets or the Mets. Still, he lives and dies by film. Joey's a voting member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
