When production resumed today on the final season of “House of Cards,” they greeted two new members to the cast. Academy Award nominees Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear will both appear in season six.
“House of Cards” was the first Netflix original series. The political drama was created by Beau Willimon, and was the first original online series nominated for major Primetime Emmy Awards. To date, the series has received 53 Emmy nominations and seven wins. It has also received six Golden Globe nominations, winning two.
Production stopped in November when star Kevin Spacey was accused of multiple instances of harassment and assault. After the actor was fired, Netflix and studio MRC decided to focus the final season around Robin Wright‘s character. Wright played Spacey’s wife. They have not yet revealed what happens to Spacey’s Frank Underwood, or in what way Claire Underwood will become the show’s solo lead character.
Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear come to “House of Cards” just as the show redefines itself.
Lane’s work in the 2002 film, “Unfaithful,” earned her an Academy Award nomination. She was also nominated for Golden Globes for “Under the Tuscan Sun” and the TV movie, “Cinema Verite.” She has also starred in a number of romantic films such as “Nights in Rodanthe” and “Must Love Dogs,” and recently appeared as Martha Kent in the “Justice League” films.
Greg Kinnear got his start as the host of the E! series “Talk Soup” in the early nineties. From there, he moved into film with roles in comedies like “Dear God” and “Sabrina.” In 1997, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for “As Good as It Gets.” He also starred in the Academy Award nominated “Little Miss Sunshine,” and currently appears in Amazon’s “Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams.”
Due to the production delay, Netflix has not announced the premiere date for season 6, but it is expected this spring.
